Good Boy

My wife and I, rescued Brutus when he was just a pup. He was loyal, sweet, loving and loved.

He loved to have his belly rubbed and spent alot of time on his back trying to persuade you to do so. He was so smart. There was not a trick I couldnt teach him.

He was such a good boy. Even though he ate 1/2 of all my socks, and even though he sometimes pottied in the house, he was a good boy!

One day he ran off and didnt come back. We worried, we searched, we hung up posters and after 4 days while I was driving to work, I found his collar on the side of a busy road...only a few blocks from the house.

My wife and I got some flashlights and went to look for our boy. By the time we reached him, it was to late. My poor Brut, he was all alone in the night. He was gone.

Seems he got hit by a car. I could definitely see his legs and hip was broken. My good boy.

We wrapped him up, brought him home and buried him in the back yard.

I never thought I'd be burying my dog today...some day, but not today. He was a good boy!

The pain hasn't lessened any. The guilt won't go. If I had only been there sooner. He deserved better...to not be alone.

He was a good boy.

Oh Kelly Rose,

I'm so sorry for your loss!

I can feel your heart is breaking. It's so horrible to think we should have, could have done something more. Guilt can be overwhelming.

You didn't know. How could you have known?

Brutus knows though, how much you loved him. But he had no way of telling you he'd been hurt and needed you.

Even though his physical body is now gone from your life, his beautiful good boy spirit, lives on in your heart.

Just talk to him now. Talk to his spirit. He will hear you and it will help to heal your heart. Tell him again, how much you loved him. Tell him you're so sorry you weren't there to help him. He knows you would have been, had you known.

And keep watch. Brutus will visit you again. He will appear somewhere, sometime...in a dream perhaps, just as you're waking you will think you saw or heard him.

That will be him come to see that you're OK. Just be OK with what happened. It's important that Brutus be able to go forward into his next realm knowing you're OK. Don't make him worry. He wouldn't want you to be sad too long.

You both shared a great love. You loved him and he loved you. There is nothing better than that. Remember that when the guilt starts to take you over.

Just tell him again..." I'm sorry Brutus. I will love you forever. You're such a good boy! ".
