Dog Allgeries & Food High in Histamine

When considering a diet for dogs with hyperactive immune system due to allgeries, should foods high in histamine be avoided to promote gut health?

For instance, my dog has seasonal allergies. Would feeding him foods rich in histamine worsen his condition, or should I steer clear of high-histamine foods to prevent exacerbating the histamine his body produces?

Giving Dogs High Histamine Foods
by: Sandra

Hello,

You didn't mention what high histamine foods you are specifically questioning? However, here are some of the most common high histamine foods.

Fermented vegetables

Processed meats, such as hot dogs and deli meat

Cheese

Legumes such as kidney beans, lentils, chick peas and peanuts ( peanut butter )

Citrus fruit.

If you are feeding any of these foods, you might want to stop feeding them for at least 3 months to see what happens, as an experiment.

Since I wouldn't ever be feeding any of these foods to my dogs, I would simply say that none of these foods are natural foods for dogs and so are best avoided all the time.
